Honed Concrete Perth
A smooth, stone-look finish that's easy on bare feet. Perfect for pool surrounds, alfrescos and outdoor living areas.
What is honed concrete?
Honed concrete starts the same way as exposed aggregate, with natural stone through the mix. Instead of washing the surface back, it's ground down to slice through the stones, leaving a smooth, flat finish that shows a cross-section of the aggregate.
It's a feet-friendly surface, which is why it's so popular around pools and alfrescos.

Honed or exposed?
Honed suits pool surrounds, alfrescos and covered areas where you're barefoot. Exposed suits driveways and side paths, where extra grip and hiding tyre marks matter more.
A smooth honed surface shows stains more than exposed, so we don't usually recommend it for driveways. You can run the same mix in both finishes across your property; the honed areas come out a little lighter.
Grip around the pool
Around pools we seal honed concrete with a non-slip additive in the sealer, which gives the surface extra grip when it's wet without losing the smooth look.

Common questions
Is honed concrete slippery when wet?
Unsealed it can be. We use a sealer with a non-slip additive on honed areas around pools and outdoor areas to give it grip.
How often does honed concrete need resealing?
Every few years, depending on how much use and sun it gets. We'll let you know what to expect for your job.
What's the difference between honed and polished?
Polished concrete is ground much finer to a shine and is mostly used inside. Honed is a matt finish that suits outdoor areas.
Can I have honed concrete on my driveway?
You can, but it shows tyre marks and stains more than exposed aggregate. Most people go exposed out the front and honed around the pool and alfresco.
